With its extraordinary and stylistically diverse approach to chamber music, the MZ Duo captivates audiences in the United Kingdom and across Europe. In its programs, the duo combines radical reinterpretations of folk songs and classical works with commissioned compositions by some of today’s most exciting composers. Improvisation serves as the connecting element, creating a lively dialogue between different musical worlds.

Spanish-Basque accordionistIñigo Mikeleiz-Berradeand Canadian saxophonistDavid Zucchimet in London in 2019, shortly after graduating from the Royal Academy of Music and the Royal College of Music, respectively. They quickly discovered a shared vision: to create concerts that authentically reflect their personalities, cultural backgrounds, and musical interests.

With their debut album*ContraDANCE*, released in February 2026 on Delphian Records, the duo garnered international attention. The album was featured on BBC Radio 3, the Spanish station Radio Clásica, and the Canadian broadcaster CBC, among others, and received rave reviews in music magazines such as*Gramophone*and*Melómano*.

For this program, the MZ Duo presents works by established and emerging British composers, including Alex Paxton (winner of the 2023 Ernst von Siemens Composer Prize), Alex Papp, Robin Haigh, Roxanna Albayati, and Brian Elias. The selection reflects the extraordinary diversity and innovative spirit of the contemporary music scene in the United Kingdom—and impressively demonstrates just how multifaceted and sonically fascinating the combination of saxophone and accordion can be.
