In the organizer's words:
Theatrical adaptation by Alessandra Ehrlich based on the film of the same name by Miriam Pucitta
"The most important thing for a foreign family was not to stand out. So you were there, but you weren't there."
(Miriam Pucitta)
Seventeen-year-old Marcella (Marcela Lopez Morales) emigrates to work abroad. Years later, her daughter Miriam (Eva Weissenböck) sets out to uncover the past. Why is Marcella silent? Why is there this gap in her memory? Based on the film of the same name by Aachen-based filmmaker Miriam Pucitta—which explores a largely unknown chapter in European migration—this production by TanzTheaterMobil/CulturBazar, directed by Alessandra Ehrlich, tells the story of a guest worker.
The premiere will take place on October 11 at 5:00 p.m. at the Suermondt-Ludwig-Museum; additional performances can be booked by schools. In conjunction with the performance, Miriam Pucitta and Alessandra Ehrlich are offering the workshop “Family Stories—Exploring, Telling, Embodying.”
*Mutterland* is supported by the Ministry of Culture and Science of North Rhine-Westphalia, the City of Aachen, the Aachen Metropolitan Region, the Partnerships for Democracy, the federal program “Demokratie Leben,” Partner für Bildung e.V., and the Aachen Community Foundation.
TanzTheaterMobil, with CulturBazar e.V. as its sponsoring organization, is an independent, professional dance company based in the Aachen Metropolitan Region. Since 2014, the team has been developing interdisciplinary productions for children and young people with a focus on socially relevant topics.
