Denis Scheck, one of Germany’s best-known literary critics, offers guidance through the vast array of current new releases with his television shows—such as “Druckfrisch”—his books, and his reviews. With a clear stance and incisive judgment, he highlights books that impress him and is just as outspoken in his criticism of titles that fail to inspire him—regardless of sales figures or bestseller status.

In this anniversary year, he will once again provide the traditional closing event for the Erfurt Autumn Reading Festival. He will take his audience on a personal retrospective of the literary year and present his very own selection and assessment of the most important books of the past few months.

Denis Scheck, born in Stuttgart in 1964, now lives in Cologne. At the age of 13, he founded his own literary agency. As a literary translator and editor, he has championed authors such as Michael Chabon, William Gaddis, and David Foster Wallace, as well as Antje Strubel and Judith Schalansky. He worked for many years as a literary critic on the radio; today, he is the host of the literary program“Druckfrisch”on ARD, an author, a curator of literary festivals, and the host of numerous literary events.
