In the organizer's words:

With the exhibition “Seeing the World in a Grain of Sand,” the Alfred Ehrhardt Foundation presents Matthias Burba’s microphotographic works, which are based on an archive of approximately 800 sand samples collected from around the world. With the aid of a polarizing microscope, the uniqueness of the grains of sand, as well as their characteristic color and structural features, become visible. Together with an interactive video work by Max Seeger, the exhibition presents sand as a geological archive, an aesthetic phenomenon, and a contested resource of the present day.
