Titles and Their Thematic Messages: There’s a lot that can be read into the title of Maik Krahl’s new album. Rain always brings blessings—not just in agriculture. The soil, the earth, and people draw new strength; plants thrive; everything starts over again. The opposite of “Rain, Flowers, and New Beginnings” would therefore be: drought, withered leaves, and final goodbyes. Nobody likes that. That’s why Krahl is determined to emphasize the positive aspect this time. His message in turbulent times is clear: It’s important to keep a cool head and stay calm, to dispel fear through many small, positive aspects and situations, and to give the general madness no chance.

He unveils nine compositional gems. They deal with the typical little situations of everyday life—the trivialities that the 35-year-old trumpeter, together with pianist Constantin Krahmer, bassist Jakob Kühnemann, and drummer Fabian Rösch, suddenly brings into the spotlight.

Maik Krahl has cast all these thoughts into sound—in his now unmistakably narrative, evocative, and yet groovy compositional and instrumental style. The trivial, the overlooked, plays the leading role in his work. And in doing so, something truly great has emerged—something akin to his personal masterpiece.
