In the organizer's words:
Two Australian composers, onelate-night performance: Just a few days after his conducting debut with the Berlin Philharmonic, our Composer in Residence, Brett Dean, takes up the viola. Together with soloists from the orchestra and pianist Benjamin Hochman, he presents his*Imaginary Ballet*: a suite brimming with tempo, rhythm, and dance-like energy. Cathy Milliken—who, like Brett Dean, hails from Brisbane—will premiere her new work,*In Play*. The romantic finale will be provided by the piano quartet by Brett Dean’s favorite composer, Robert Schumann—a work that begins dreamily and builds to the height of passion.
