La Bohème
In the organizer's words:
Henri Murger’s 1851 novel served as the starting point and inspiration for composer Giacomo Puccini and his librettists in creating their opera *La Bohème*, which premiered in 1896. At the heart of Puccini’s most famous opera—which continues to move audiences to this day—is a group of young people in Paris.
The story of the four artist friends—including the poet Rodolfo—and the two female friends, Mimì and Musetta, weaves together joy of life, love, and friendship, but also poverty and the struggle to survive in a very real world.
Because of its accessible plot, emotional depth, and beautiful music, this opera is often recommended as an introduction to the genre for young audiences. For the production with which the Landestheater Detmold will open the 2026/2027 season, the theater has enlisted the internationally renowned opera director Katharina Thoma (London, Strasbourg, Stockholm, Frankfurt, Cologne, among others).
