Kulturell leben // Lesung Vernesa Berbo
In the organizer's words:
Vernesa Berbo's novel *The Son and the Snowflake* tells the story of two sisters during the siege of Sarajevo.
Dijana is a sister, a daughter, and a soldier—self-assured and passionate. Her father calls her “Son.” Dada, her younger sister, was born in 1976 in the freezing cold—like a snowflake. When the siege of Sarajevo began in 1992, Dijana became Dada’s protector. And while Dijana, “Son,” faces the war with toughness, Dada, “Snowflake,” clings to Mirza, her first great love—until fateful events threaten to take everything away from the sisters. Dada disappears… With tenderness and unwavering resolve, Vernesa Berbo writes about war and love against all odds.
The author, herself a survivor of the Siege of Sarajevo, has lived in Berlin since 1993 and works as an actress, musician, and author. Her debut novel plunges us right into the reality of war—a gripping tale of breathless suspense.
“A novel against war and for love. A great joy.”
