Kiezführung Berlins neue Mitte 23.August 14.00 Uhr
In the organizer's words:
Neighborhood Tour of Berlin's New City Center
Discover Berlin – Guided Tour of the New Mitte!
I’m Markus, a true Berliner, born here in Mitte in 1968. I’ll take you on an exciting journey through time around the site of the former Tacheles and the newly designed Forum on Museum Island.
This tour is the result of two years of research in archives, books, and conversations with eyewitnesses—and, not least, my own memories. I’ll bring along unpublished photos and videos and share some gripping stories with you.
The history of the Tacheles building—now just one-tenth of the former Friedrichstraße passage—dates back to 1908. Back then, one of the world’s most modern passage-style department stores was built here. We’ll trace the eventful history of this place, from the Imperial era to today’s “Fotografiska.”
At the Forum on Museum Island, we’ll continue with the history of the telegraph office, the postal depot, the telephone exchange, the Gropius Ensemble, and much more. Architecturally and historically fascinating!
Afterward, we’ll be happy to wrap up the tour together in the new beer garden at the Dieselhaus—here you can also ask me questions or simply continue the conversation.
