Joel Sarakula is an Australian singer and songwriter who has dedicated himself to soulful West Coast pop, observing the contemporary world through his vintage glasses with a 70s tinge. Influenced by soft rock, funk and disco, he offers sunny uptempo jams for darker times.
Originally from Sydney, Australia, he has spent the last ten years living in London and now in the Canary Islands. "I've spent my life moving to smaller and smaller islands," jokes Sarakula. He has developed and lived his soulful style over his last two albums "Love Club" and "Companionship", but his decision to move to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria at the end of 2020 has brought him full circle.
His previous album "Soft Focus" (2024) was named "Album of the Week" at Superfly Vienna and Oldenburg Eins and features tracks produced by Shawn Lee. Sarakula performs regularly in the UK, EU, USA and Australia. From his humble beginnings at open mics, piano bars and Irish pubs, he has steadily built up a loyal fan base; more recently playing sold out gigs across Germany, as well as appearing at festivals such as SXSW (USA), Primavera (Spain), Glastonbury (UK), Baltic Soul Weekender and Sacred Ground.
