Jazz Tuezzday
In the organizer's words:
After 13 years with the Rainmakers, Bänz Oester is starting a new chapter. His new band features Bänz Oester’s longtime collaborator Malcolm Braff on piano and two rising stars from the Jazzcampus Basel scene, Albin Ormegard from Sweden on guitar and the American Genius Wesley on drums. The music flows improvisationally through expansive arcs of tension—it grooves, sings, and revels—and the next surprise is already waiting just around the corner…
“Yesterday’s concert was truly magnificent! It’s as if I’d been waiting a long time for this music to come along. A great combination: two experienced musicians and two young musicians of extraordinary maturity. I really liked how you sometimes present the thematic material only in sketch form, and then the development begins like a creative breath that builds in intensity and is sometimes very powerful and profound. And sometimes minimalistic, but never cheesy—just like the wind that gently picks up and gains strength through solos that are often shared with the other musician. An island in today’s jazz landscape, which often offers trendy references instead of taking the stage—as you do—with your arms full of material drawn from throughout history. Thank you and bravo!”
