Jazz Tuezzday
In the organizer's words:
Together with her colleagues Phil Donkin and Fabian Arends, pianist and composer Clara Vetter explores a sonic spectrum ranging from jazz to impressionism and contemporary music. One audience member described her music as “Debussy crashes into Stockhausen.” Vetter seeks out the connections between the things that inspire her and fully incorporates the understanding she gains from them into her music. This is also the source of the versatility and depth for which the 2023 Baden-Württemberg Jazz Award winner is renowned.
In her compositions, the pianist conveys her sensitive and multifaceted perception of the world around her. Her audiovisual, synesthetic impulses are subtly evident in her music. Sounds, textures, and visual impressions from nature particularly inspire Vetter, as they usually occur with the highest degree of complexity, yet in a natural and effortless manner. Organic movements translate into a complex rhythmic, and at times agogic, language. Colors and shapes she sees become harmonious tones. A unique musical language emerges that focuses on deep musical exploration—drawing on sensory impressions from the external world and inner experiences, supported by artistic craftsmanship, virtuosity, and intuition.
In her new album *What dances here*, Vetter uses metaphorical, fairy-tale-like imagery to span a musical arc from inner and outer perception to the realm of fantasy. It is a tribute to the coexistence of reality, fantasy, and the evolution within them.
