A new show?

Helmut Schleich – Live. That’s the promise, and he delivers. Helmut Schleich does whatever he wants. No two evenings are alike. His role model is the government. And so he tells himself in the Silbersaal: Why should I care about what I said yesterday? After all, we live in a time when reality outdoes cabaret day after day.

“Overtaking without catching up”—that’s what they used to call it under socialism. Back then, Russia built the world’s largest hydrogen bomb—the so-called Tsar Bomba. It was so big that no delivery system was capable of transporting it. Now that’s what I call a peace initiative. The Americans were caught off guard. They hadn’t counted on unbearable pacifism from the “Evil Empire.”

Good cabaret and politics do have something in common after all: both aim to surprise people. Cabaret has to be like the Tsar Bomba of old—explosive and unbearable. The result is an extremely entertaining evening that doesn’t lack for attitude. The motto is: “I’m not serious!” Helmut Schleich, in turn, picked that up from the chancellor.
