Heinali und Andriana-Yaroslava Saienko Гільдеґарда (Hildegard)

In the organizer's words:

The composer and sound artist Heinali (Oleh Shpudeiko, * 1985, Kyiv) and the vocalist Andriana-Yaroslava Saienko (* 1997, Lviv) present the collaborative work Гільдеґарда (Hildegard), based on the music of the abbess and polymath Hildegard von Bingen (1098-1179).

The performance moves between early music, modular synthesis and vocal practice and conveys both spatial and physical experiences: Low frequencies and prolonged tones create a sensory field in which somatic experiences of war reverberate. Two compositions by Hildegard von Bingen are performed at a radically slower tempo. Through drones and generative structures, they unfold between monophonic and polyphonic forms. Saienko's voice emphasizes physical intensity and tonal range and draws on Ukrainian folk singing - a tradition that persists despite numerous attempts at standardization and neutralization. The project sees itself neither as cultural preservation nor as a romanticizing homage and consciously avoids any idealization or exoticization of folk music.

This concert takes place as a double bill with a concert by Abdullah Miniawy. We recommend purchasing a combined ticket for both concerts.
