Westfälisches Landestheater: Heimsuchung (Literaturtage Recklinghausen 2026)
In the organizer's words:
“Heimsuchung” – A Play Based on the Novel by Jenny Erpenbeck
A house by a lake in Brandenburg becomes the setting for German history: In *Heimsuchung*, Jenny Erpenbeck tells the story of people bound to the same place across generations—and of the political and social upheavals that shape their lives.
From the Imperial era through the Weimar Republic and National Socialism to the GDR and the period following reunification, a polyphonic panorama of the 20th century unfolds. Each character searches in their own way for a sense of belonging, security, and a home. In the process, personal fates become inextricably linked to major historical developments.
The stage adaptation brings Erpenbeck’s poetic and powerful novel to life and offers diverse perspectives on German history. Amid memories, loss, and new beginnings, a moving picture emerges of how places shape people—and how history lives on in individual lives.
A compelling evening of theater about home, identity, and the question of who a place belongs to.
