¡Hasta siempre, Fidel!
In the organizer's words:
On August 13, 2026, Fidel Castro would have turned 100. To this day, his life’s work elicits strong reactions from friends and foes alike. What made the Comandante en Jefe so extraordinary? How did he become the “historical figure” who played a decisive role in shaping the history of the 20th century? And why does the Cuban Revolution—of which he was the driving force—refuse to back down to this day?
At the heart of the exhibition “¡Hasta siempre, Fidel!” are images by Cuban photographer and filmmaker Roberto Chile, the Comandante’s personal photographer, which offer us insights into Fidel Castro’s political life from an intimate perspective. Also on display are photos by his Cuban colleagues Raúl Abreu and Alex Castro. The exhibition is complemented by historical photos from his childhood and youth, as well as well-known and lesser-known images by Cuban photographers—from the guerrillas’ struggle in the Sierra Maestra to the victory of the Cuban Revolution on January 1, 1959.
The exhibition on the life, work, and legacy of Fidel Castro—especially in light of Cuba’s current precarious situation—reminds us that another world is both possible and necessary.
Opening reception on August 13 at 7:00 p.m.; doors open at 6:30 p.m.
Opening remarks: Nick Brauns (jW Editor-in-Chief)
Concert: Singer-songwriter Tobias Thiele (winner of the Cuban music award CubaDisco 2025)
