HANS WERNER HENZE.
Composer, Communist, Dandy.
A film by Holger Preuße and Philipp Quirin
The Nazi era, the war, and the dangers he faced as a gay man made Hans Werner Henze, born in Gütersloh in 1926, Germany’s most political composer. With his sophisticated demeanor, he shattered all preconceptions of a composer of “serious music.” The documentary features previously unseen archival footage, thereby highlighting Henze’s personal side.
Screening of the film with an introduction by
Philipp Quirin, followed by a panel discussion
