Hans Gerzlich - Ich hatte mich jünger in Erinnerung
In the organizer's words:
Hans Gerzlich is horrified when he suddenly realizes that he was born in the same year as... old people. During the commercial breaks on his favorite show, he no longer sees ads for alluring aftershaves and fast sports cars, but rather for Granufink, Voltaren, and heating pads.
Fifty on the outside, twenty on the inside, he asks himself, “When does life finally begin?” But then the “Personal Pension Statement” lands in his mailbox again. The newly minted “Best Ager” has done the math: If he retires at 67, he can live quite comfortably on his pension for eleven days. That’s why he’s hoping for an increase in the bottle deposit.
But he’s also thinking about coming to terms with his own mortality. He ponders missed opportunities, his growing serenity, what a new ethic of aging might look like—one in which economic efficiency plays a role but isn’t the top priority—and which language he’d best learn now so he can communicate with his caregiver later on.
This cabaret show will have you laughing until you’re doubled over—whether you’re 50, used to be 50, or plan to turn 50 someday. But be warned: By the end, you’ll be two hours older and have quite a few more laugh lines.
