Hardly any orchestra is as closely linked to the history and tradition of European music as the Vienna Philharmonic. When this exceptional orchestra—with Tugan Sokhiev at the podium, recently praised by the press once again as brilliant, serious, highly musical—and featuring the charismatic American star violinist Hilary Hahn as soloist—travels to Dresden, a true dream combination will take the stage at the Kulturpalast. The musicians bring with them two highlights of the Romantic repertoire: Dvořák’s Violin Concerto, with its direct use of the violin—unusual for its time—already captivated audiences at its premiere in 1883—a showcase piece for three-time “Grammy” winner Hahn. And what better way to end the evening than with excerpts from Prokofiev’s “Romeo and Juliet,” one of the most significant ballets of all time, renowned for its enchanting melodic richness.
