Grounded Outer Space People Open Studio
In the organizer's words:
As part of a week-long program at KW, the Grounded Outer Space People, music ensemble and residency program at the same time, open their collaborative practice to the public every evening.
Developed by the artist and musician Anton Kats (* 1983, Kherson), the group changes with each edition with newly invited performers - in this edition with Hiromu Seifert, Natalie Greffel and Nima Séne. This constantly changing formation is central to the investigation of transmigration and sound. Over the course of the residency, sonic, textual and visual designs emerge through improvisation and collaborative listening, shaped by the contexts and references that each artist brings to the table.
Grounded Outer Space People is interdisciplinary and open and is based on Kats' multifaceted practice between music, radio, installation and publication. The project ties in with Kats' concept of "sonic antifascism" and Ukrainian cosmism and approaches its imaginative and planetary thinking through sound. Inspired by Chicago Boys: While we were singing, they were dreaming by Hiwa K and the artist and philosopher Fedir Tetyanych (1942-2007), among others, the ensemble understands music as a practice of interweaving bodies, histories and geographies.
