Großer Museumstag 2026: Mitmachen, Entdecken & Zukunft gestalten!

Under the theme “Old Enough for the Future: Museum Reboot,” you’ll get to experience the District Museum in a whole new light on Sunday, July 26, 2026! From10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., in addition to the exhibitions, we’ll offer you lots of exciting and fun special activities, hands-on stations, and the chance to take a look behind the scenes of museum work! And the best part: Admission and all special activities are free on this day, and no registration is required!

We’re thinking about the future of the museum—and we’d like to explore it together with you! We look forward to your suggestions and to exchanging ideas with you!

Here’s what you can expect on our event day:

     Creative & Discovery Stations:Become a “Dachau Detective,” print historical motifs on paper, or design your very own personalized emblem to take home.

     Future Makers & Museum Insiders:Find out what kind of “museum person” you are, step into the role of museum director at the collection station, and gain new perspectives on the exhibitions through selected display cases!

     Dialogue & Cultural Breaks:Take a seat in the cozy “museum living room” in the attic for open conversations with our team, listen to original historical quotes in the farmhouse parlor, or chat on the “story bench” by the museum wall.

     Fun for Kids & Relaxation for Everyone in the Courtyard: An exciting museum scavenger hunt, a painting table, and a selfie station await our young guests and those young at heart, while the chill-out area—complete with seating, drinks, and snacks—offers a chance to socialize and relax with family and friends.
