Greetings from the Red Cinema: Between Work and Resistance

In the organizer's words:

On July 7, 2026, at 7 p.m., we’ll continue with our summer edition of Red Cinema. Following our events downstairs at medico Haus and at Pupille in Bockenheim, this time we’ll be gathering at@naxos.kinoat 7 p.m. to watch BLACKS BRITANNICA (1978) by David Koff and Musindo Mwinyipembe. We’re really excited about this collaboration and look forward to another evening together at naxos!

About the film: “Banned in the UK, this documentary is an indictment of how Britain treats its Black immigrants. With commentary from a wide array of Black citizens, BLACKS BRITANNICA illustrates how every part of the UK—from the economy to law enforcement—was set up to protect white people” (Source: Black Film Archive)

When? July 7, 2026
What time? 7:00 p.m.
Where? naxos.Kino
Waldschmidtstraße 19, Hamburg

Blacks Britannica was censored and banned in the UK relatively soon after its release. The reason was its unsparing, honest, and direct portrayal of a racist class society that was enforced and implemented at all levels of the state in England. We look forward to spending this evening with you and to our traditional post-film discussion, where we’ll try to address any open questions and share perspectives. Come early, come in large numbers, and bring your friends.

The event is free.

Upcoming screenings: KINGS AND EXTRAS (2004) on August 4 at 7 p.m.

Red Cinema is a decolonial event series in Frankfurt am Main that has been organizing film screenings, discussion panels, and director Q&As at various locations since April 2024.
