Brezel Göring is an irreplaceable figure in Berlin’s music and art scene. From the early 1990s well into the 2010s, Göring was one half of Stereo Total, the much-loved band he led alongside his partner Françoise Cactus. The duo achieved cult status from America to France (Cactus’s homeland)—thanks to their enthusiastic DIY attitude and their fruitful interplay of cross-genre experiments. Since Françoise Cactus’s tragic passing in 2021, Göring has dedicated himself to honoring the legacy of his partner’s unique artistic sensibility. She was a passionate writer, and Göring soon came across one of her unpublished books. *Forever 16*, which hits theaters on August 27, is Göring’s cinematic elegy to this rediscovered work. It’s a raw, psychedelic fever dream, accompanied by a soundtrack by Stereo Total, that leaves you wondering why there aren’t many more films like this.
