Spotlight on the Photographer

Mithra has been photographing since 2023, primarily using analog techniques. Through her close and respectful collaboration with the people in her photographs, she succeeds in capturing intimate connections and moments. Her images often remain open-ended in their impact and allow for various interpretations. This creates particularly layered narratives in her self-portraiture. Mithra makes a conscious decision to shoot analog and develop her own film. She deliberately embraces the limitations inherent in the medium. The number of possible exposures is limited, and mistakes during development can irrevocably alter or destroy images. Mithra works directly on the negative. She writes on the material or scratches it, leaving deliberate marks that become part of the image. Unlike digital manipulations, these changes cannot be undone. It is precisely this uncertainty and finality that give the works their particular intensity and make each image a one-of-a-kind process.
