Fortuna Ehrenfeld x Fenster zum Hof-Open Air 2026
PICK OF THE DAY
You cannot miss this event.
In the organizer's words:
Fortuna Ehrenfeld have persistently crocheted their own DNA of a subcultural superspecies - linguistically an absolute imposition, they turn away from the usual singer-songwriter consensus once and for all and rampage elegantly and unimpressed through the language barriers like a poked badger in a sausage stand. With a sold-out concert in Cologne's Philharmonie, they have now returned after a year's sabbatical and sound fresher and smoother than ever before. Live at the Hollywood Bowl is a colossal self-indictment and a resounding slap in the face for the AI in the pacifier stage. Martin says: "By far the best thing we've ever done. Happiest man alive." Fortuna have reduced their idiosyncratic poetry and unmistakable sound to a melt-in-your-mouth point. Catchy tunes on the strip. Will-o'-the-wisps, abysses and always a huge package of danceable hope, unadorned consolation in the floating ballads. Lyrically, they shamelessly cheat their way into the vicinity of Frank Zappa and/or Trio and continue to dig a little deeper into the trenches of blissful beer-can indie. And as long as the drum machine still has battery power, the LED chains of the mixing desk fly into red and any elegance falls victim to sheer production naivety.

The "Fenster Zum Hof"-Open Air - Mainz is a concert format in the inner courtyard of the Landesmuseum Mainz, where the independent concert agency Musikmaschine presents German bands and live acts from the fields of indie, pop, rock, electro, folk, hip-hop and singer-songwriters who are beyond newcomer status. These headliners are combined with the best up-and-coming artists from Rhineland-Palatinate. As a platform for young, sophisticated live music, which is all about innovative musical entertainment at a high level, the FzH demonstrates anew every year that it is not music history that is repeated here, but rather something new is created. The booked artists don't turn a blind eye, but spread hope and optimism, especially in the face of the unfortunately very difficult realities at the moment. And when the music machine transforms the inner courtyard into a festival area, the following always applies: dancing is always possible! Mine, Kapelle Petra, Die Sterne, Peter Licht, Die höchste Eisenbahn, Wallis Bird, Jeremias, Mayberg, Enno Bunger, The Gardener & The Tree, Blackout Problems, Chefket, Dota, Kytes and Jupiter Jones have played at the FzH and the concert agency's aim remains to offer innovative and independent live music every summer in the most beautiful venue in the media and university city of Mainz. The FzH format started under the impression of the first lockdown in 2020 as a streaming show in the cultural location "Altes Postlager" in Mainz. It was then continued as a spontaneously improvised open air in the courtyard of the Landesmuseum and has since established itself as an annual concert series. This year's edition offers twelve dates between July 24 and August 23, 2026.
