In “Fools At Work,” resident choreographer Samir Akika transforms the stage into a catwalk of desires and vanities. A red carpet becomes the performance space for seven dancers, who collectively explore the self-image of artistic work. Inspired equally by conceptual art and fashion shows, Akika and the dancers of Unusual Symptoms break down the hierarchies between high culture and subculture, blending performative experimentation, artistic activism, and the escapist pleasures of late capitalism into a danced happening that straddles desire and consumption.
