In 1949, Thomas Mann returns to Germany for the first time since his exile in California. Award-winning Polish director Paweł Pawlikowski intertwines personal destinies with the political upheavals of the immediate postwar period. The search for a new political order in Germany is reflected in the disintegration of a family. Through high-contrast black-and-white images of extraordinary precision, the camera creates a visual world of great beauty and melancholy.

We’re presenting films—both big and small, but always fantastic—in cooperation with the Bonn Kinemathek.

Films start at 8:30 p.m., doors open at 7:30 p.m.
Sound is provided via a personal headphone system. Sanitized headphones are available at the entrance. In case of inclement weather, the films will be shown in the Forum of the Bundeskunsthalle.
No outside food or drinks are permitted. The rooftop kiosk offers delicious snacks and drinks.
