Festkonzert 50 Jahre Jugendmusiziergruppe „Michael Praetorius“ Leipzig
In the organizer's words:
In 1976, the youth music group “Michael Praetorius” Leipzig emerged from smaller ensembles led by recorder player Luise Rummel; it was initially called the “Rummel-Truppe.” Over the decades, the ensemble has made a name for itself through its unique format: In addition to their orchestral instruments or recorders, the young musicians play historical instruments, particularly those from the time of their namesake, Michael Praetorius—that is, around 1600. Wind instruments such as the shawm, cornamuse, pommer, and dulcian are used most frequently, but the ensemble also features the fiddle, rebec, viola da gamba, portative organ, and glockenspiel.
Today, the youth music group brings together approximately 35 young musicians aged 12 to 20 under the direction of Andreas Künzel and Judith Gerhardt. And: it is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a festive weekend in September.
The gala concert“Ohrwürmer und Gassenhauer”(Catchy Tunes and Popular Hits) features works spanning five centuries by Susato, Schein, Pachelbel, Challinger, and, of course, Michael Praetorius. Since the youth music group also dedicates itself to contemporary compositions for its unusual instrumentation, the program will also include a world premiere by Florian Kästner.
