Falten-Frei-Tanz
In the organizer's words:
On Sunday, July 26, 2026, the Essen Initiative, in cooperation with the LeichtR e.V. association, is inviting people aged 60 and older to dance for the third time.
From 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Trudi in Essen’s Nordstadt district will once again become an open dance floor featuring a rousing mix of hits from six decades, following the event’s great success and sold-out shows in January and April. Guests can once again look forward to a musical journey with DJ Chrys Pilny, ranging from timeless classics to current hits from rock, pop, disco, soul, reggae, and indie—danceable, energetic, and bringing generations together. The atmosphere is relaxed, accessible, and respectful. The focus is on dancing as a shared experience. No prior experience is required; everyone is encouraged to join in. Seating, quiet zones, and friendly on-site support are available.
Doors open at 4:00 p.m. Free admission. Donations are welcome; younger attendees must be accompanied by someone over 60. No registration is required. The event takes place at the Trudi KreativKathedrale (Gertrudiskirche), Viehofer Platz, 45127 Essen.
If you have any questions, please feel free to send an email to faltenfreitanz@gmail.com.
Background:
The Essen initiative, consisting of Monika Funke, Susanne Marx, and Ulla Di-allo, enjoy going dancing themselves, and to do so, they not only travel to the neighboring district of “Rüttenscheid,” where the Golden Years Party takes place twice a year, but also occasionally head to Dortmund, Düsseldorf, Bochum, or Münster to hit the dance floor. To expand the offerings for people over 60 who love to dance in Essen, they took matters into their own hands and organized the first “Falten-Frei” dance party in downtown Essen in January, which was a huge success. Joining them in this effort are Monika Rintelen from the LeichtR e.V. association, Stefan Schindler-Schulze, nightlife coordinator for the city center, and Evelina Muntendorf from the DRK Kreisverband Essen e.V.
