If you look it up in the Duden dictionary, PIPIFAX stands for “nonsense and rubbish.” That’s exactly what Erwin Grosche has been doing on stage for 50 years, hiding touching philosophical thoughts and earnest insights within all the nonsense. Now he’s finally coming back to Bonn to showcase his new enchanting ideas and his unforgettable classics. And he often has a little song on his lips as he accompanies himself on a blue children’s accordion or children’s piano. Sometimes it’s about something he’s good at; other times, he sings an ode to the poppy seed cake that drives him to strange thoughts. And as if that weren’t enough, he plays the accordion with his double chin! You really can’t ask for more. Unless, of course, a miracle happens: the miraculously resurrected garden grass clippings bag. There’s a feel for language and verbal wit; there are intelligent double meanings instead of shallow ambiguities; there’s a talent for lovingly portraying human weaknesses and making the audience laugh without ridiculing others. What a blessing. This is humor in the fifth dimension.
