A childhood between radical freedom and a painful lack of security: in her novel "Mit beiden Händen den Himmel stützen", Lilli Tollkien tells the moving story of Lale, who grows up in a Berlin men's commune in the 1980s. Between excessive parties, political utopias and seemingly limitless possibilities, she experiences a world without clear rules and without the security she longs for so much. With great poetic power and unsparing honesty, the novel unfolds a haunting portrait of vulnerability, resilience and the courage to give oneself a voice.
