Shadows, light and rainbows - Dortmund's queer history

Dortmund is steel, coal and black and yellow passion. But between the old winding towers and the bustling streets of the city hides a story that for a long time was only told in whispers. On this tour, we invite you to get off the beaten track and discover Dortmund's colorful soul - mindfully, respectfully and authentically.

This tour is not a party, but a tribute to courage. We go in search of traces: from the oppressive silence of the past to the lively openness of the present.

What you can expect:

We will visit the Steinwache memorial site. Here we pause to remember those who were persecuted because of their identity. A moment of silence that touches and grounds us.

We stand in front of the doors of the KCR (Kommunikationscentrum Ruhr) - the oldest gay and lesbian center in NRW. Find out how history was made here in the 70s in the heart of the Ruhr region.

On a walk through the Burgtor district, we will show you how former "hiding places" have been transformed into places of proud encounters.

Our guides are part of the community or closely connected to it. They don't tell memorized scripts, but real anecdotes from life in the Ruhr - sometimes melancholy, sometimes with the typical Ruhrpott wink.
