Detroit – Let’s Play-Performance von Montserrat Gardó Castillo & Petr Hastik

A true story from 2019 serves as the starting point for this performance: a car accident that occurred during a trip—of all places, in Detroit, the “Motor City.” The memory of this event continues to haunt the artists Montserrat Gardó Castillo and Petr Hastik. In Detroit, they ask themselves how memory is formed, how it changes, how it is shared, and how it blends with fiction. The performance becomes a reenactment of the accident. The iconic open-world video game Grand Theft Auto (GTA) serves as the stage. In this digital palace of memory, the collision can be reenacted over and over again—together with other players in the virtual model city and with the live audience. Somewhere between a concert, a choreographed piece, and a “Let’s Play,” an intense, personal evening unfolds, exploring the possibility of reclaiming one’s own experience.
