The Bárbara Moreno Duo invites you on a musical journey through Spanish and Latin American folklore. Experience a moving evening filled with history, music, images, literature, and poetry—all dedicated to corn, the staple food of Latin America’s indigenous cultures.

We’ll take a journey through the history of pre-Columbian maize culture with its myths, traditions, and legends. The result is a collage featuring texts from the Popol Vuh—the sacred book of the Maya—as well as works by Andrés Bello, Miguel Ángel Asturias, Pablo Neruda, Gabriela Mistral, and Ernesto Cardenal, combined with songs and images from Latin American folklore. The evening also highlights the contemporary significance of corn as a biofuel and its role in the context of fair trade and poverty alleviation.

The ensemble consists of singer Bárbara Moreno, a native of the Dominican Republic, and Peruvian guitarist Giancarlo Alemán. Their program features a mix of traditional and modern compositions in various styles, drawing on Latin American and Spanish influences. The duo’s music, characterized by Moreno’s expressive voice and Alemán’s virtuoso guitar playing, is full of soulful melodies, rousing rhythms, passion, and infectious joie de vivre, and has already captivated audiences in many cities.
