A Family Play Loosely Based on Hans Christian Andersen
World Premiere at the Heidelberg Castle Festival
Dance, Youth Theater [6+]
English House
Adapted by Natascha Kalmbach / Interdisciplinary production by Dance Theatre Heidelberg and Junges Theater
As soon as the duckling hatches from its egg, everyone knows: this duck is different. It looks unusual, quacks strangely, and moves oddly. Almost the entire duck flock thinks it just doesn’t fit in! The little duckling has to go. With a heavy heart, it leaves its family. From now on, it makes its way through the world alone, searching for a place where it belongs.
Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale from 1843 is a profound story about exclusion and being an outsider. In this production, the experiences and emotions of the little duck are brought to life on stage by actors and dancers working together. In this way, the story of loneliness, belonging, and self-acceptance is retold in a uniquely moving way.
