BAL RENAISSANCE - DANSE MEDIEVALE: Historisches Tanzfest mit Okzitanis

The "Bal Renaissance - Danse Médiévale," a popular historical dance festival since 2012, is taking place in Bonn for the first time and invites dance enthusiasts and medieval history buffs to a festive evening featuring dances, music, and culinary delights from the Middle Ages and the Early Renaissance.
The duo Okzitanis will provide the music for the dancing with bagpipes, drums, and stringed instruments, and will also expertly lead all the dances. No prior experience is necessary, and everyone can join in right away. The program features circle dances, hedge dances, and figure dances, ranging from the exuberance of village festivals to the splendor of courtly balls.
The two professional musicians and dance masters of Okzitanis—Astrid Lang and Ingrid Lang—structure the evening entirely according to medieval tradition: the instruments are not amplified, and Okzitanis plays live right in the midst of the dancers. The dances are drawn from historical sources, ranging from the manuscript collection of the Bibliothèque nationale de France and the archives of Buda Castle, through Thoinot Arbeau’s *Orchésographie*, to John Playford’s *The English Dancing Master*. Dancing takes place to music from the 14th–16th centuries.
Unlike today’s typical ballroom dances, these dances are not performed in pairs but by everyone together as a group. The evening is therefore ideal for individuals and diverse groups alike.
There’s no shortage of culinary delights either. During the dance breaks, the Schützenhof serves an excellent two-course historical meal featuring seasonal and regional cuisine.
The Okzitanis will entertain with medieval song and music, and there will be plenty of opportunity to chat and get to know one another.
