"This piece makes all our lives better," says Sir Simon Rattle about Johann Sebastian Bach's St Matthew Passion, emphasizing the universality of this monument to music history: "Whether you are a believer or not, it creates an atmosphere of such pure honesty - you can't resist it." With the renowned Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, Rattle has an absolute expert ensemble at his side for the St. Matthew Passion, about which the star conductor once admitted: "I hoped I wouldn't fall in love with another orchestra, but I did." This artistic love of making music together now culminates in this concert with one of the most legendary works in music history.
