Accidentally in Love
“This piece makes all our lives better,” says Sir Simon Rattle of Johann Sebastian Bach’s St. Matthew Passion, emphasizing the universality of this monument of music history: “Whether you’re a believer or not, it creates an atmosphere of such pure honesty—you can’t resist it.” With the renowned Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, Rattle has at his side an ensemble of absolute experts in the St. Matthew Passion, about which the star conductor once admitted: “I had hoped not to fall in love with yet another orchestra, but I did anyway.” This artistic love for making music together now culminates in this concert featuring one of the most legendary works in music history.
