Ayelen Parolin, a choreographer who possesses a rare gift in contemporary dance, opens the summer festival: Humor. The Guardian, for example, described her as a "master of choreographed comedy" in a review of her waltz dance stage prank ZONDER, with which she won the hearts of audiences and critics at the 2024 Summer Festival. Now the Argentinian choreographer from Brussels pays homage to the excessive carnival of her childhood in Buenos Aires, with its murga marching bands and cumbia dances. With 12 dancers, colorful costumes and an exuberant soundtrack, Parolin choreographs a euphoric state of emergency, inspired by joie de vivre, intoxication - and resistance. After all, carnival is always a tool for criticizing social grievances, and the pursuit of pleasure and ecstasy in the sense of "pleasure activism" according to adrienne maree brown does not mean the distraction from activism, but its core. The revolution of this great choreographer, who has also recently created works for the Ballet de Lorraine and the Norwegian national company Carte Blanche, among others, is correspondingly irresistible.
