Afrikatage 2026: "My Father’s Shadow"

The Africa Days, organized by the One World Forum Mannheim and the One World Centre Heidelberg, offer the opportunity to learn about various topics and regions of the African continent with numerous events in Mannheim and Heidelberg. The aim is to counter one-sided and stereotypical perceptions with a differentiated image of the continent with a diverse and top-class program. Against the backdrop of the tense situation in Nigeria after the first democratic presidential elections in 1993, British-Nigerian filmmaker Akinola Davies tells of the reunion of two children with their often absent father in his multi-award-winning feature film debut: a day of the brothers with their father in Lagos, filled with the joy of family activities, but also with personal and political uncertainty; in the midst of the omnipresent, threatening military, the father and his sons find each other, at least for a day.
